YAK-1 Jakovlev The Yak-1 was a Soviet fighter aircraft that was the result of a competition held in 1938. It was developed by the design team of A.S. Jakovlev, whose OKB (Construction Group) began working on the project in May 1939.
The Yak-1 was a nimble and fast fighter aircraft. The composite wooden construction allowed for easy maintenance and the engine proved reliable, forming the basis for further development from Yakovlev's office. He became the founder of a series of aircraft, of which approximately 43,000 were produced.
